Inês Nascimento Rodrigues
Biography
Inês Nascimento Rodrigues is a researcher at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra, where she integrates the research line Europe and the Global South: heritage and dialogues. She currently coordinates GHOST - The Afterlives of Contract and Enslavement: Narratives on Indentured Labour between Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe, funded by a Marie Skolodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Global Fellowship (2024-2027). She is also the recipient of an Individual Call for Scientific Employment Stimulus (CEEC) award from the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (2023-2029). Since 2023, she has taught in the doctoral programme Postcolonialisms and Global Citizenship (CES/FEUC), where she coordinates the course Postcolonialisms, Identities and Cultural Citizenship. Previously, between 2017 and 2023, she developed postdoctoral research within the ERC-funded project CROME - Crossed Memories, Politics of Silence: the colonial and liberation wars in post-colonial times, coordinated by Miguel Cardina. She holds a PhD in Postcolonialisms and Global Citizenship. Her doctoral research resulted in a book on the Batepá Massacre (São Tomé and Príncipe), which received the CES Prize for Young Portuguese-Speaking Social Scientists and honourable mentions from both the Victor Sá Contemporary History Prize (Universidade do Minho) and the Contemporary History Prize (Fundação Mário Soares - Fundação EDP). Inês has served as vice-coordinator of the CES Trauma Observatory (2022-2024) and co-coordinator of the research group NHUMEP - Humanities, Migration and Peace Studies (2020-2022). Her current research focuses on memory studies, postcolonial theories, the representation of colonial and liberation wars, and the cultural history of forced labour in African archipelagic contexts. She is Reviews Editor and a member of the Editorial Board of Práticas da História. Journal on Theory, Historiography and Uses of the Past (NOVA FCSH) and Cadernos de Estudos Africanos (CEI-Iscte), and also serves on the Editorial Board of e-cadernos CES.
