3rd enleio Meeting
Free readings, with enchantment
date to be announced
Sala de Conferências, Arquivo Nacional da Torre do Tombo (Lisbon)
The freedom to write, publish and read has been a topic of much reflection and, naturally, writings in different socio-political, cultural and educational contexts.
The obstacles and impediments to free readings are the marks of historical circumstances, both within and outside national boundaries and the law, which have permeated the artistic-literary fields and given rise to convergences within and across borders. Today, there are guardians and censors who violently seek to silence, erase people and societies, deny science, disinform and reverse advances in equality, particularly the expression of gender, language and racial diversity. Recent attacks on these freedoms highlight the importance of this expression and highlight the need to understand the protagonists, guises and discourses of bans and other forms of less conspicuous censorship.
In this event, we will focus on books and reading as targets and the designs of retrogression, inequality and exclusion that they face.
