The aim is to address the concept of the “paradigm of potency” and its implementation in urban peripheries. Several studies have examined how these communities redefine concepts of power and action, countering narratives of victimisation. The paradigm of potency emphasises the internal capacities and resources of communities to promote self-sustaining social and economic change. Examples of community development projects, social enterprises and alternative educational initiatives will be presented, demonstrating how collective mobilisation and local power can effectively transform socio-economic realities in the peripheries.
