Discussion about the Peripheral Laboratory’s participation in the TRANS-lighthouses Consortium and its socio-technical advisory practices in informal urban areas. Presentation of the working methodology of the Laboratory based at the University of Brasília (coordinated by Prof. Liza Andrade and co-coordinated by Prof. Vânia Loureiro) and specific cases of work recently developed in partnership with government agents. In particular, the case of Sol Nascente in Brasília, the largest favela in Brazil, where nature-based solutions are being implemented to mitigate hydrogeological risks (Periferia Sem Risco Programme), as well as the case of Dorothy Stang, also in Brasília, a settlement where a comprehensive land regularisation project was developed based on nature-based solutions (Periferia Viva and Residência CTS) for urban drainage and urban well-being.

Bio note

Vânia Loureiro holds a PhD in Architecture and Urbanism from the University of Brasília (2017). She is an adjunct professor in the Department of Design, Expression and Acting at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of Brasília. She coordinates several outreach projects related to urban design in informal and peripheral areas and develops research and outreach on informality and self-organisation, socio-spatial analysis and geotechnologies, with a focus on socio-technical advisory processes.  She is Deputy Coordinator of the CTS (Science, Technology and Society) Residency and is currently Extension Coordinator of the Architecture and Urbanism Course. She is deputy leader of the Research Group ‘Periférico, trabalhos emergentes’ (Peripheral, emerging works) and a member of the ‘DIMPU’ group. She is deputy coordinator of the Periférico laboratory, Sociotechnical Advisory Service of FAU-UnB.
