Priyanka Sharma
Biography
Priyanka Sharma is a doctoral researcher at the University of Coimbra, investigating rape in public spaces in Delhi, India: victims' experiences and legal responses. Her research focuses on how intersecting factors of caste, class, and gender shape survivors' access to justice. She conducts in-depth, interview-based fieldwork exclusively with rape survivors to examine the social and legal dynamics surrounding sexual violence and the effectiveness of post-2012 legal reforms, including the Criminal Law Amendment Act of 2013. Alongside her research, Priyanka works as a Cambridge curriculum educator, teaching English, Mathematics, Science, and Global Perspectives. Her work is informed by intersectionality, critical class theory, transfeminism, post-colonial thought, and public space studies, with particular attention to marginalized groups such as Dalit women and trans women. She holds a Master's degree in Conflict Analysis and Peacebuilding from Jamia Millia Islamia, India, and a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Chemistry.
