Viviane Gomes Teixeira
Biography
She holds a degree in Industrial Chemistry from the Fluminense Federal University (1994), a master's degree in Polymer Science and Technology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1997), and a Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Technology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2005). She was a professor at the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro from 1998 to 2008 and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Analytical Chemistry at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She has experience in Chemistry, with an emphasis on Polymers and Colloids. She coordinates the Laboratory of Porous Spherical Polymers, where she develops research projects under the line of study titled "Synthesis and characterization of spherical polymers with controlled porosity for application as ionic adsorbents and catalysts." She is also active in the field of Chemistry Education, working on research lines such as "Gender Relations in Chemistry Education" and "Environmental Education in Chemistry Teaching." She teaches both in-person and distance learning undergraduate courses, the Specialization Course in Chemistry Teaching, and the Professional Master's Program in Chemistry Teaching, where she also serves as deputy coordinator-all at the Institute of Chemistry at UFRJ. She is one of the coordinators of the Didactic Chemistry Laboratory at the IQ/UFRJ, an institutional space dedicated to teaching, research, and outreach in Chemistry Education. Additionally, she coordinates the outreach and research project "Girls in Chemistry - Exact Sciences as a Career Option for Women," which promotes scientific education for girls and encourages their entry into professional careers in the Exact and Earth Sciences. She was the coordinator of the Chemistry Rio de Janeiro subproject within the Institutional Scholarship Program for Teaching Initiation (PIBID-UFRJ) and also served as the coordinator of the undergraduate program in Chemistry - Technological Assignments at the IQ. Moreover, she was a deputy representative of the Center for Mathematical and Natural Sciences on the UFRJ University Extension Council. Currently, she is conducting postdoctoral research at the Center for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra under the supervision of Professor Rosa Monteiro. Her research interest focuses on public education policies aimed at the inclusion of girls in the Exact and Natural Sciences in Brazilian public schools.
