Biography

Paulo Peixoto is an Associate Professor with Aggregation at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra (FEUC) and a researcher at the Centre for Social Studies (CES), where he is part of the thematic line "Urban Cultures, Sociabilities, and Participation." He serves as Pro-Rector of the University of Coimbra for Pedagogical Innovation, Inclusive Policies, Volunteering, and Student Residences (Repúblicas). He is a member of the Ethics Committee of the University of Coimbra and the National Council for Pedagogical Innovation in Higher Education (CNIPES). Currently, he is the President of the Portuguese Sociological Association, a member of the Executive Committee of the European Sociological Association, and the Chair of European Sociological Associations. He is also part of the International Institute for Research and Action on Academic Fraud and Plagiarism (as a Board Member) and the Ibero-American Network for Research in Academic Integrity (Rede-IA). Additionally, he is Vice-President of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (Western Europe). In Brazil, he is involved in several CNPq research groups. From 2019 to 2023, he served as the Ombudsman for Students at the University of Coimbra. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Coimbra (2007) and a licentiate degree (1994, partially completed at the Catholic University of Louvain) as well as a master's degree (1997) in Sociology from the same institution. He is currently conducting research projects on heritage and tourism and on higher education. He engages in outreach activities, coordinating the evaluation of social intervention projects and public policies. Over the years, he has held various management roles at the Centre for Social Studies, the Faculty of Economics at the University of Coimbra, and the SNESup.
