Márcio Antônio Rodrigues


Biography

Márcio Antônio Rodrigues is a PhD candidate in Sociology at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra (FEUC), where he also completed a postgraduate specialization in Sociology at the School of Advanced Studies. He holds a Master's degree in Social Sciences (Sociology) from the Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais (PUC Minas), recognized by FEUC, and a Bachelor's degree in History from the same institution, recognized by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra (FLUC). He also holds postgraduate specializations in Afro-Brazilian History and Culture, Sociology Teaching, and the Science of Religion. He is currently a research fellow funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and conducts his research at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra (CES/UC). His research focuses on the sociology of religion, consumption, urban cultures, and identities, with a particular emphasis on Afro-Brazilian religions. He is the author of works on Afro-religious consumption and ethnography. He is currently developing his doctoral thesis entitled "Afro-religious shops in Portugal: mediation and cultural translation in the Portuguese urban context", in which he analyzes these spaces as sites of cultural mediation and symbolic circulation. He worked as a teacher of History and Sociology in Minas Gerais (Brazil) from 2004 to 2022, with experience in primary, secondary, and higher education, serving as a teacher, trainer, researcher, and pedagogical coordinator. In Portugal, he holds professional recognition from NOVA FCSH and has experience as a tutor at the University of Coimbra and as a teaching assistant at FEUC.
