Marie Batista


Biography

Marie is a PhD candidate in International Politics and Conflict Resolution at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra and at the Centre for Social Studies (CES). Alongside this, she works as a researcher and translator specialising in digital policy and artificial intelligence. In this capacity, she works as a consultant with two South African think tanks, contributing to projects related to the African Union's data policy, information integrity in West Africa, and the political mobilisation of young people on social media in the Sahel. She is also a member of the core team of the Global Index on Responsible AI, where she serves as general reviewer for data collection and leads the translation team. She is also a student assessor for A3ES for the period 2024-2029 and a teacher of French as a foreign language. She holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Poitiers (France), where she also completed a research master's in Experimental Psychology and a master's in Translation and Cultural Studies. She also holds a Master's degree in European Studies from the University of Coimbra. Her academic interests focus on European and African regional integration, the foreign policy of the European Union (EU) and relations between the EU and the African Union, as well as social and cognitive psychology. She speaks fluent French, Portuguese and English, and has been studying Arabic for eight years.
