o    Dimensions and shapes of the Earth’s surface

o    Different representations of the Earth

·       Cartographic projections

o    Classification of projections

o    Projection surfaces

o    Properties of projections

o    Types of contact between surfaces

·       Reference systems and coordinates

o    Geodetic reference system (datum)

o    Geodetic surveys

o    Global Positioning System (GPS)

·       Cartographic representations

o    Types of representation

o    Scale

 

Practical content
·       Fundamentals of social cartography and participatory mapping

o    Discussion of excerpts from the book Social Cartographies and Territory, edited by Henri Acselrad

·       Exploration of geospatial tools

o    Introduction to OpenStreetMap

o    Using Google Earth

 

2   Second session (16/06/2026) Lecture content
·       Technologies applied to cartography

o    Remote sensing

o    Geoprocessing

·       Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

o    Installation of ǪGIS software

o    Basic structure of ǪGIS

The workshop will be conducted through:

·       Interactive lectures;

·       Discussion of academic texts;

·       Practical activities using digital tools;

·       Applied mapping exercises.

·       One computer or laptop per participant;

·       Internet access;
