SAFEBOT
Supporting Adolescents' Feelings & Emotions Through a Chatbot for a Whole-School approach to Students' Emotional Education and Well-Being
The SAFEBOT project aims to promote students’ well-being and support teachers in creating emotionally safe, inclusive and digitally competent school environments, through a whole-school approach to socio-emotional education, embedding well-being into the school’s culture, policies and everyday practices.
Throughout the project, three key resources will be developed:
- Pedagogical Toolkit for Teachers – a set of practical materials including a mini-guide and structured lesson plans, enabling teaching teams to integrate topics such as emotional intelligence, psychological well-being, stress management, bullying, cyberbullying and healthy relationships into their pedagogical practices.
- SafeBot chatbot – an anonymous, accessible and interactive chatbot that will provide emotional support to students, helping them navigate everyday challenges in a safe and judgement-free space.
- Students’ Library – a digital library offering articles, podcasts, videos, useful contacts and other national and international resources related to well-being and mental health.
The project also seeks to promote the responsible use of technology and strengthen digital literacy, supporting students and teachers in developing the critical skills needed to navigate the digital environment and identify misinformation related to emotional and mental well-being. In summary, this initiative aims to enhance students’ social, emotional and relational competences, support teachers with innovative, inclusive and accessible methodologies, and contribute to the creation of school environments where everyone feels supported, heard and empowered to thrive within the school community and beyond.
The SAFEBOT project foresees the creation of a set of resources and tools that will directly support the transformation of educational practices related to social, emotional and digital well-being.
Main Results:
- Toolkit for Teachers: This resource will bring together easy-to-implement support materials, offering clear guidance, practical examples and ready-to-use pedagogical sequences. It will enable teaching teams to consistently and safely integrate content related to emotional intelligence, psychological well-being, stress management, healthy relationships and the prevention of different forms of violence, strengthening schools’ capacity to respond to these challenges.
- SafeBot chatbot: An anonymous and accessible chatbot will be developed, designed as a safe space where students can explore their feelings, clarify doubts and receive immediate support when facing emotionally demanding situations. This tool will complement existing support services, reducing barriers such as stigma or fear of judgement and contributing to a school culture more open to dialogue on well-being.
- Students’ Library: This digital library will gather a wide variety of resources—including articles, podcasts, and contacts for support services—allowing students, families and professionals to easily access reliable and up-to-date information on mental health and well-being. It will be an accessible and inclusive learning space that fosters emotional literacy and facilitates access to help when needed.
The implementation of these resources is expected to contribute to:
- Consolidating a whole-school approach to well-being, encouraging the entire school community to adopt consistent and coordinated practices.
- Strengthening the confidence and preparedness of teaching teams by providing innovative and inclusive methodologies that support the safe and coherent approach to sensitive topics.
- Reducing inequalities in access to emotional support by creating alternative and anonymous channels that address the needs of students with diverse profiles, contexts and vulnerabilities.
- Promoting safe and critical digital behaviours, preparing students and teachers to recognise risks, navigate sensitive information and counter misinformation.
- Fostering more welcoming, participatory and diversity-sensitive school environments, reinforcing the sense of belonging, emotional expression and the ability of all individuals to thrive both within and beyond the school.
